Add collection filters

Filters come from Shopify's Search & Discovery app. Lensatic shows them in a sidebar on large screens and in a drawer on phones, turns number specifications into a range, and can show the Made for filters as buttons above the products.

Add filters in Search & Discovery

  1. Install the free Search & Discovery app from the Shopify App Store, if it isn't on your store yet.

  2. In your admin, go to Apps > Search & Discovery, then click Filters.

  3. Click Add filter and choose a Source: for example availability, price, product type, vendor, a product option such as Color, or a product metafield such as custom.terrain.

  4. Optional: change the name shoppers see in Filter label, or group values together.

  5. Click Save. The filter shows on collection pages and in search results.

Note

Product metafields can be filters when their type is Single line text (one value or a list), Integer, Decimal, True or false, or Metaobject reference. A store can have up to 25 filters.

How Lensatic shows filters

  • On large screens, filters sit in a sidebar next to the products. On phones, the Filters button opens them in a drawer.
  • Applied filters show above the products, with a button to remove each one and Clear all.
  • Long lists show the first values and a Show more button.
  • Every change updates the products right away, without reloading the page.

Number specifications as a range

When a filter reads the metafield of one of your specifications, and all its values are numbers, Lensatic shows it as a range: a dot for each product on a scale, and From and To fields with the unit. Shoppers type the lowest and highest value they want, and every product in between stays.

For the range to show:

  • Use the same metafield in the filter as in Theme settings > Specifications, for example custom.weight.
  • Use the Integer or Decimal type for that metafield.

A note under the range tells shoppers how many products list a value, so they know when some products are missing it.

Made for filters above the products

Made for values, such as terrain or skill level, are often the first thing shoppers choose. When Show Made for filters above products is on, these filters show as buttons under the collection title instead of in the filter list.

This works for the metafields you set under Made for in Theme settings > Specifications, once they are filters in Search & Discovery.

Color swatches in filters

A Color filter can show the colors themselves instead of their names. In Search & Discovery, open the Color filter and turn on Include swatch. Your products need a Color option connected to swatches; see Product page.

Sorting

With Enable sorting on, shoppers sort by the usual options, such as price or best selling, and by each specification that has a Better value, for example Weight, lightest first.
